As one progresses with their meditations it is to their benefit to understand chakras. Chakras are located throughout the body and are the focal points of energy. While there is some disagreement on the number of chakras generally it is accepted that there are seven. Each chakra has a different purpose and one must focus on each of them differently. For some people certain chakras are closed and others open or overactive. Through chakra meditation one can realign the chakras into equilibrium if they are out of balance or open closed chakras.
The root chakra or Muladhara chakra is found in the perineum. This is the area located between the anus and genital region. This chakra controls how someone feels about their security and stability. If you are a fearful person or get very nervous in situations it is a good idea to focus your meditations on your root chakra to open it and heal yourself. The second chakra is the Sacral Chakra or Swadhisthana. This chakra controls your feelings and your relationships. This chakra is located in the sacrum, which is the lower abdomen.
The third chakra is the solar plexus chakra also known as the Manipura chakra. This chakra controls one’s concentration and self discipline. It also controls the body’s digestion of food and thus the transformation of food into energy. This chakra is located below the chest and above the naval. The fourth chakra is the Heart Chakra or Anahata. This chakra controls love and compassion. This chakra is located in the chest. This chakra must be open to allow the energy to pass to the higher chakras.
The fifth chakra is the throat chakra or Vishuddha. As the name indicates it is located in the throat. This chakra control’s one’s ability to communicate. This chakra is important because it influences one to speak the truth. The sixth chakra is the third eye, brow chakra or Anja. This chakra governs one’s intuition. It also deals with visualization and clairvoyance. It allows you to have insight and perception of the physical world. The seventh chakra is the Crown chakra or Sahasrara. This chakra is located slightly above the head. This chakra is the one that unites you with the consciousness of the universe. It connects you with divine wisdom and enlightenment. For some this is envisioned by a white circle above the head.
By focusing on one or all of the chakras while you meditate you can increase the flow of kundalini energy flowing through your body. Therefore it is suggested that you begin meditating at the root chakra and work yourself up to the crown chakra. This will help the flow of energy from the bottom of your body to the top. If you have a particular area of weakness you might begin by just meditating on that chakra until it is strengthened or opened. Once it is strong then you can begin changing the focus of your chakras during meditation to gradually rise from the base to the crown.
Chakra meditation is a more advanced concept that one should pursue only when they are comfortable meditating for a while. It offers substantial physical and mental benefits that couldn’t be achieved with a normal meditation session. It may be helpful to find a teacher or master to guide you through the chakras so you can actually feel the vortexes of energy. Once you can feel and understand the vortexes of energy you can release the energy and feel it pulsing through your body.

This is a quite good and informative article and great to get a quick understanding of the different chakras. I have done chakra meditation for some time now, but I mostly focus on the third eye chakra and the crown chakra, so I feel it is time for me to practice complete chakra meditation again to create balance throughout my whole chakras system.
Thanks for posting.
